33 Newcastle Street, Rose Bay, NSW
Completed Q3 2020 / 9 residences
There’s a responsibility that comes with creating something so present in the daily lives of Rose Bay locals. Every detail of The Benson was chosen to feel immediately established within its streetscape, from the use of naturally aged stone, to the mature foliage grown from local soil.
“There is a thoughtfulness to the design; it is both contemporary and practical. There are excellent interior design finishes for the whole building, from the external tiles to the internal kitchen benchtop. The limestone is beautiful, bathroom fittings are all beautiful. We’re really happy.”

Our challenge was to create the feeling of an established, stately home with a completely new build. We chose limestone for the exterior façade; a natural stone with minute imperfections along its edges, similar to the stone buildings of Europe. The three established olive trees originally growing on-site have been preserved and will take centre stage at the new front door.
“The outdoor terraces feature deep portals akin to an alfresco living room. The depth also creates privacy, so each space feel less like an apartment and more like a standalone home.”
Brian Meyerson, CEO & Lead Architect, MHNDU
In partnership with architects MHNDU, with interior design by Hecker Guthrie and landscapes by Wyer & Co., The Benson has been designed as boutique in size, with 9 residences split over 3 levels. Construction is now 100% complete, with Lords Group expertly managing the build.

“What impressed us most was the size of the terrace in the front. You just don’t get a terrace like ours. And the fact we have two. A lot of units that we looked at couldn’t even fit a table and chairs.”
