Pallas House Melbourne
Inspired by Japanese modernist architecture, we wanted to create a sense of place and refined elegance in the rich streetscape of Palmerston Crescent. Maximising the outlook to the city through a series of bold framing elements, Pallas House Melbourne uses clean and simple materiality and form to realise this.
The site
On the city-fringe at Palmerston Crescent in South Melbourne, this 589m2 site offers unobstructed views of the Melbourne CBD and is only a short walk from the upcoming Anzac Β Station, St Kilda Road and the South Melbourne Markets. With over 1,900m2 of commercial office space, the building will provide tenants with the option to occupy a range of floorplate sizes, while the private balconies and landscaped panoramic rooftop terraces add to the overall sense of belonging.

Process
We entered into a collaboration with one of Australiaβs leading architecture firms, Ewert Leaf, to determine the creative vision. It saw an in-house design competition with five internal teams of architects at Ewert Leaf each submitting their own designs for the nine-storey commercial and retail space.Β The Ewert Leaf competition winners then worked closely with our team to realise the final designs.
Design
On entry, a statement canopy tree lendsΒ an established feel to the welcomingΒ lobby. Rising through the building, theΒ breathtaking views are maximised viaΒ a series of striking framing elements.
Dynamic design and natural light flow throughout, offset by natural stone, curved archways, full-height glass and exposed ceilings.
Construction
Demolition works have concluded on site at Pallas House Melbourne ready for Cobild to commence construction in early 2021.
This iconic South Melbourne site presents some interesting challenges for Cobild to work through, including limited access, and site boundary lines which are hard up against neighbouring properties.
Cobild have succeeded in designing sensitively to ensure both construction and operation of the building can be undertaken with limited impact on future neighbours.
