589 Toorak Road, Toorak, VIC
Under construction / 7 residences

With its timeless allure, Toorak is one of those suburbs that’s almost impossible to leave—so few ever do. Decades of trade. Generations of families.  For Ode to stand the test of time, we knew it needed to become enveloped in Toorak’s history.

History

3142 might be one of the most desirable postcodes in Melbourne, but it’s only aspirational from the outside. For locals, the real measure of value is how long you’ve lived or worked in the area—and the answer is usually in the decades. In response, we created the Toorak Time Capsule, which will be buried at the threshold of Ode in the coming months. The capsule will share memories of village heroes through ‘Stories of Toorak’, along with memorabilia contributed by local residents.

Design

The design of Ode was rooted in the idea of contributing to the future narrative of Toorak. Creating a well-mannered building that will age gracefully, and provide timeless gravitas in an eclectic architectural setting. A boutique building of four levels designed by Ewert Leaf, with six half-floor residences crowned by a full-floor penthouse.

Timeless gravitas

“The white bricks will be laid in a vertical stack bond over a steel lintel to provide a unique modern aesthetic that retains the buildings minimal materiality.”

Catheryn Tattersall, Architect, Ewert Leaf

Materials

The use of imported European white Morada bricks, contrasted by cascade planting, gives the residences an air of legacy. Durable materials continue through to the interiors, with natural stone slabs, hard-wearing timber floorboards and 100% wool broadloom carpet. Construction is currently underway, in the capable hands of our long-term partners, Cobild.
